Traditionally South African red wines had a reputation for being coarse in texture with rustic flavors. The Afrikaans word dikvoet used to describe these wines meant literally "thick foot".
In the vineyards, growers focused yield control for better ripeness while winemakers used modern techniques to create softer, fleshier wines. Red Wine varieties are the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Cinsaut, Merlot, Pinotage, Pinot Nor, Shiraz and Zinfandel.

Complex and stylish, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and pencil shavings. This wine is bone dry, yetexhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish.
The Simonsberg appellation has been called Cabernet Country, and with good reason! Cabernet has been grown there for over 300 years and produces classic, elegant examples of the varietal. Notes of cassis, tobaccoleaf, and Moroccan mint.
This handcrafted Cabernet Sauvignon has layers of ripe blackcurrant and spices on the nose and is well balanced with savoury notes on the palate.
Cabernet Sauvignon simply thrives on our soils and with world class results. This aroma is a lovely concentration of ripe berries and this all reflected in the mouth filling red-fruit flavours on the palate, with just a hint of oak.

Ridgeback Cabernet Sauvignon has classic upfront cassis, dark plum and a hint of mint evolves to notes of cigar box and dried herbs. Firm, ripe tannin, wood spice and minerality linger on the finish.
A rich and full-bodied wine with a good tannic structure, lots of berry fruit flavours such as blackcurrant and cherries with undertones of dark chocolate.
Ridgeback Cabernet Franc has upfront blackcurrant taste with hints of green peppercorn and black olive cradled by elegant, ripe tannin and oak spice on the long mineral finish.

Received 14% oaking in older French barrels, so essentially the wine offers fruit plus juicy accessibility. Mixed red berries and cherries at the core with whiffs of dried herbs, white pepper, dusty spice and some dark chocolate. All of which follows through to the palate, ending fresh and lively, but with an attractive streamlined smoothness. Ends savoury, exactly what is required for a food wine.
Ridgeback Merlot has intense aromatics of dark plum, mulberry and liquorice with a hint of mint. A generously juicy mid palate is well cradled by ripe tannin and lingering pepper wood spice on the long finish.

The Groenlandberg Pinot Noir is sourced from a selection of south-facing vineyards situated between 430m and 470m above sea level. There is minimal intervention in the cellar. Whole-bunch fermentations, gentle punch downs and a careful approach to oak maturation, create a delicate Pinot that expresses wonderful fruit and a strong sense of place.
Light ruby red with a pale brown rim. Cranberry, sour cherry, mushroom, wet leaves and wet soil aromas abound. The medium-bodied palate delivers flavours of liquorice, perfume, spice and earthy porcini mushrooms.

Oak matured with vibrant plum and ripe berry fruit on the palate. The wine has an intense aroma of roasted coffee beans followed by a smoky mocha-java aftertaste.
The Boland Cellar Coffee-Style Pinotage delivers layers of dark prune, plum and sweet blueberry flavours with a prominent cedar French oak finish, reminiscent of Mocha Java. Due to the beautiful extraction of Pinotage fruit flavours, the oak was well integrated and delivered a wine with a creamy lingering finish.
Completely unwooded to allow Pinotage to display its easy drinking charms. The wine has a rich and concentrated bouquet of dark berry confit, prunes, vanilla and sweet spice notes. It’s a lighter style wine with soft acidity, smooth tannins and a fruit-forward palate with a hint of toffee which is perfect for wine lovers who dislikes a more robust style of Pinotage. The wine is elegant, well-made and integrated.

Flavors of dark cherry and black plums, mushrooms and cured meats. This is a medium to full-bodied, elegant wine from the cool climate of Elgin. Drinking beautifully now, but will continue to age gracefully in bottle.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (17%), Cabernet Franc (13%) and Petit Verdot (12%). A Bordeaux blend – carefully matured in new French barrels for 24 months. This premium wine is like Louis’ golf swing – smooth!

The structure of this wine is medium to full bodied, with the Cinsaut providing an elegantly fresh and zippy palate, finishing dry.

Received 30% oaking in old French 225 litre barriques for 24 months. The wine has a deep scarlet colour and cascading aromas of black fruit, dark chocolate, leather and savoury notes. This concentrated wine has structured tannins and well-integrated acidity with bold flavours of fruitcake and spice. It is a polished wine with excellent varietal typicity.
