Red Wine selections

Blessed with some of the best red wines in the world, South Africa’s selection of red wines make’s this country the number one hotspot for red wines.  Here are a list of the country’s red wine varieties that will knock the socks off any red wine drinker.

Traditionally South African red wines had a reputation for being coarse in texture with rustic flavors. The Afrikaans word dikvoet used to describe these wines meant literally "thick foot". In the vineyards, growers focused yield control for better ripeness while winemakers used modern techniques to create softer, fleshier wines.

Red Wine varieties are the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Cinsaut, Merlot, Pinotage, Pinot Nor, Shiraz and Zinfandel.
